Question 2

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in 2026 in the Lehigh Valley?

Accepted Answer

2026 Lehigh Valley bathroom remodel costs: cosmetic refreshes (new vanity + fixtures + paint + flooring) start at $8,000–$14,000; mid-range remodels with new tile shower and layout preservation run $15,000–$25,000; full gut renovations with layout changes, Schluter waterproofing, and premium fixtures range $25,000–$40,000. Primary bathrooms with soaking tubs and double vanities can exceed $45,000.

Question 3

How long does a bathroom renovation take in Lehigh Valley?

Accepted Answer

Most Lehigh Valley bathroom remodels take 2–4 weeks of active construction, plus 1–2 weeks of material ordering. A cosmetic refresh (no tile work) runs 7–10 days. A full gut with custom tile shower and Schluter waterproofing takes 3–5 weeks. Custom tile pattern work and niche construction adds 3–5 days. Permit turnaround is typically 1–2 weeks in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton municipalities.

Question 4

Can you convert a bathtub to a walk-in shower?

Accepted Answer

Yes, tub-to-shower conversions are one of our most common Lehigh Valley bathroom projects. Feasibility depends on: drain location (may require re-plumbing for curbless entries), available space (minimum 32" x 60" for a comfortable walk-in shower), and whether you want curbless / zero-threshold entry (requires floor lowering in most existing framing). Typical cost: $8,000–$18,000 depending on tile selection and scope.

Question 5

Is waterproofing necessary behind shower tile?

Accepted Answer

Yes, waterproofing behind tile is critical and we use Schluter-Kerdi systems on every shower we build in the Lehigh Valley. Cement board alone is NOT waterproof despite common misconception. Improper waterproofing causes hidden moisture damage, mold behind tile, and structural framing rot — the #1 cause of bathroom remodel failure. Schluter adds $1,200–$2,500 to a typical shower scope and is included by default.

Question 6

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel in Pennsylvania?

Accepted Answer

Permits are typically required in Pennsylvania bathroom remodels when plumbing fixtures move, electrical circuits are added (GFCI outlets, new lighting), ventilation fans are installed, or structural changes occur (knocking out walls). Cosmetic-only refreshes (same fixtures, new vanity, paint, flooring) may be exempt. Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton each have their own permit thresholds — we handle all applications as part of our service.

Question 7

What is the best flooring for a bathroom remodel?

Accepted Answer

Porcelain tile is the best all-around bathroom flooring for Lehigh Valley homes — 100% waterproof, ~$8–$20/sq ft installed, and resistant to the PA freeze-thaw humidity swings. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is a strong budget alternative at $6–$12/sq ft installed but with lower heat tolerance (avoid if installing radiant floor heat). Heated tile floors add $1,200–$2,500 for a typical primary bathroom — a popular 2026 upgrade.

Question 8

Can you remodel a small bathroom to feel bigger?

Accepted Answer

Yes. For Lehigh Valley row homes and older Allentown / Bethlehem bathrooms, we apply: larger-format 12x24 floor tiles (visually elongate the space), wall-to-wall vanities with floating designs (reveals floor), frameless glass shower enclosures (removes visual clutter), recessed niches (removes shelf protrusion), and continuous flooring through a curbless shower entry (visually extends the room). Typical small-bathroom transformation runs $18,000–$28,000.
